A VERY SAD DAY...

It’s with a sad heart I have to bring you some tragic news- over forty cats, seven puppies and three of our oldest dogs were all euthanized (murdered) by Greenville Animal Control.

On November 6th, Animal control came out on a sick cat complaint from a person who volunteered one day at the shelter. Apparently, upon seeing sick cats, the volunteer made complaints to Animal Control. Had this person voiced their concerns to us, we would have told them that the animals in question were being medically treated by our Vet (who had been to the Rescue that same day). Unfortunately, Animal Control did not bother to confirm with our Vet that the animals were being treated and removed them all. And to make things worse, they ended up euthanizing fourteen of the cats they seized and told us to sign over, so they could get “medical treatment.”

And so when the animal control officers and codes enforcement rolled in they seized fourteen cats, plus five dogs “to take for treatment”, even though we told them they were being treated by our Vet. Animal Control told me it would be better for me to sign them over, and they could get medical treatment.

But instead, THEY KILLED THEM ALL. I was told they don’t have the facility or funds to hold and treat animals. I guess in their eyes it's EASIER TO KILL THEM.

The following Monday, (November 9th ) they came back out and seized all the other dogs and cats. They killed three of our senior dogs because they were old and didn’t move fast like the young dogs and because they had arthritis and were skinny. They were seventeen years old. They did not deserve to spend their remaining days locked up on death row!

The seven puppies they killed were said to have had Parvo- the puppies were barely 3 weeks old when seized- and the recommended vaccination schedule begins when puppies are 6-8 weeks of age. Their mother or father didn’t have it, and no other animals had it. We are led to believe they must have caught the deadly virus at the county’s animal lock-up.

Oh, and they also killed the remaining cats they seized. Yes-we did have sick cats that were dumped at the gate. (On average, we had sixty or more cats dumped a month.) HOWEVER, they were being treated by our Vet and could have easily recovered from their illnesses. Many were thin, but again-these were strays or unwanted animals. Wouldn’t you think that these animals would be thin? Had they been given a little more time, they would have plumped right up from our care. But instead they were killed.

The sad thing is I can’t legally prove I am right, even though I have records and hundreds of volunteers as witnesses. I am a disabled VET and a nonprofit rescue. Greenville County Animal Control knows I can’t afford a lawyer, so I can’t fight it.

But the worst thing is that our animals died for no reason. Our rescue was their home and they were supposed to be safe. Our senior animals should have been able to live out their last days in the only home they have known, surrounded by love. Yet, Greenville County Animal Control felt they could use their authority - just like those I fought against in wars in other countries and kill them because they weren’t adoptable. I carry the war memories of the fallen Marines and Solders that I saw killed, and the villagers in Viet Nam, Angola, Uganda and all the other war zones. No one can stop them- just like the Nazi’s… gather them up and gas them.

I was told “Why do you keep them? They are not adoptable. When you get the sick, the old, or the crippled ones, just kill them and save the money for the ones that you can adopt out.” Animals deserve better than that!

Well thousands of cats, dogs, and some horses, 28 rabbits, 30 guinea pigs, and even a red tailed Hawk came and went to good homes from here. All thanks to the hundreds of Volunteers that have helped and the hundreds of loyal supporters with their many donations.

This is not good bye- this is until the smoke clears. These animals need us and we can’t give up on them!

Don't Let It End Like This! The Animals NEED YOUR LEGAL HELP RIGHT NOW!

It is with a heavy heart that we report the Loving Home Rescue and Adoption was shut down on by Greenville County Animal Control, who seized ALL of our animals, based on the complaints from a person who volunteered one day at the shelter. The dogs they took are still alive (we hope) and we want to get them out of there! Many of the animals they took are disabled, or seniors with medical conditions and we worry that they will not survive the stress of being misplaced.

We are reaching out to you in our GREATEST hour of need to ask if you can donate to our cause. We have hired an attorney and we will fight these allegations in a court of law in front of a jury of our peers. However, attorneys are costly, something a non-profit 501.3c, NO KILL animal rescue operated by a disabled VET does not have the funds for. Please contribute in any way you can!

Loving Home Rescue and Adoption simply could not survive without the help of dedicated, caring animal lovers just like you who generously volunteer at the Loving Home Rescue. Our volunteers improve the quality of life of life for each and every homeless pet sheltered at the Loving Home Rescue and Adoption. Because we rely so much on the time and help offered by volunteers, the Loving Home Rescue and Adoption invites everyone from teenagers (16 years old and up) to retirees to join our volunteer corps. You can work as much or as a little as you prefer!

Ways Volunteers Help:

Adoption Center: Dog walking, socialization, feeding, cleaning, grooming, rescue, basic health care, training and obedience, adoption counseling, answering telephones, making follow-up phone calls to adopters, etc.

Administrative Assistant: Everyday, we have lots of administrative tasks that we simply can't get to; each vitally important to the achievement of our goal of saving more lives. Tasks include record keeping, answering telephones, filing, scheduling appointments, etc. Make and distribute flyers for events. Put your skills to work saving animals.

Corporate Support/Team Project Member: Employees from local companies give their time throughout the year for one-day projects that enhance the quality of life for our animals. If your company would like to help, please call (864) 399-2612.

Special Events/Fundraisers: You probably don't know this, but it costs us more than $500 to prepare the typical homeless pet for adoption. Special needs animals cost much, much more. Because we receive no government funding, we rely exclusively on individual donations and special events to support our lifesaving work. Volunteers aid our essential fundraising activities immensely; our events and even office work are always fun for everyone involved!

Social Media/Web Marketing: Help the Loving Home Rescue and Adoption build and manage our online community! Become part of a dedicated team of volunteers, spending time online promoting the Loving Home Rescue and Adoption's no-kill mission and causes. You won't even have to leave the house!

Dog Walker: Was more exercise on your agenda for 2009? It’s not too late to start! Get moving outdoors and provide exercise for our dogs. Take a dog for a walk or play ball in a fenced yard. By giving a dog some one-on-one attention, you are also helping with its socialization. It’s a very rewarding experience!

Community Liaison: Locate new donation box locations; pick up donation boxes from current locations.

Carpentry Projects: Put your carpentry skills to work! We are always looking for help with improvements to our rescue!

LOVING HOME ANIMAL RESCUE TO HOST ADOPT-A-THON, DONATION DRIVE & VOLUNTEER OPEN HOUSE

(Fountain Inn, S.C.) Loving Home Rescue and Adoption, a family-based 501.3c, NO KILL non-profit pet rescue operation in Fountain Inn, will host an Adopt-a-Thon, a Donation Drive and a Volunteer Open House this Saturday, November 7th, from 10:00am to 5:00pm. The local no-kill pet rescue had planned to host these events last weekend, but due to inclement weather, the event has been rescheduled.

“We take in damaged and injured animals, the old and very young, the disabled, and the ‘plain-Janes and average-Joes’- the ones with the awesome personalities who just can't compete with the cute little puppies and kittens that everyone wants to take home.” said McKnight, who, being a disabled Marine himself, can identify.

The number of cats and dogs at the no-kill shelter at any one time is fluid – animals are dropped off and animals are adopted – but a general head count can reveal up to 50 dogs and puppies and 80 cats and kittens. The rescue has suffered a large influx of animals during the recession, which is why McKnight plans to host an Adopt-A-Thon of kittens, cats, puppies and dogs that day.

LOVING HOME ANIMAL RESCUE TO HOLD COMMUNITY “BARN-RAISING” ON HALLOWEEN

(Fountain Inn, S.C.) Loving Home Rescue and Adoption, a family-based non-profit pet rescue operation in Fountain Inn, will celebrate Halloween this year with an old fashioned community barn-raising. However, instead of a barn, volunteers and businesses in the community will construct a cat room and an outdoor dog shelter to house the rapidly growing number of pets that need sanctuary.

Volunteers from the community are welcome and needed.

Todd Leiterman and a crew of employees from Home Depot on Woodruff Road will bring wood and equipment for the dog shelter, while a crew from Precision Carpentry and Plumbing of Greenville will build a cat room.

The number of cats and dogs at the no-kill shelter at any one time is fluid – animals are dropped off and animals are adopted – but a general head count can reveal up to 50 dogs and puppies and 80 cats and kittens.

The day will start at 10am and end at 5pm. McKnight says “We need volunteers for fence painting, wood sawing and nail banging. Everyone is invited, come one, come all. With enough help from the community, we can get this project done for the animals.”

Loving Home runs entirely off donations, and McKnight admits that more donations are desperately needed, but also added that money isn’t the only valuable commodity. Animals Waiting to be Adopted

Adopting a pet from Loving Home Rescue and Adoption is easy. You pick out your next best friend, fill out a form, and then you take him or her home. However, we do limit the adoption to a car load at a time.

We are a rescue. We don't sell our animals, but we do ask for a donation if at all possible to help cover the costs of their shots and spay/neuter costs. We are not like some rescues where pets are sold for $150-$200! Our goal is to find them a warm, loving home!

We have many dogs and cats- some are handicapped or pregnant. But ALL of our animals are just as loving as any other! Don’t see your ideal mate? Please continue to check back as we add animals every day! All dogs are kid-friendly and our cats are super cuddly!

URGENT...Sweetie Needs Your Help!

Little Sweetie is three years-old and was hit by a car. Unfortunately, her owner’s did not have the money to pay a vet to repair her injuries; so instead… they just LEFT HER IN THEIR BACKYARD WITH A SHATTERED HIP AND LEG…FOR THREE MONTHS!

Luckily for little Sweetie, her neighbors have a conscience and took her to a Rescue, who got the ball rolling on getting Sweetie’s injuries fixed. The first vet was able to repair her hip (BY RE-BREAKING IT), but unfortunately her little leg will have to be amputated. The first Rescue delivered her to us and we will arrange for Sweetie’s operation and find her a GREAT home once she recovers.

Our vet is reviewing Sweetie’s x-rays and notes from the other vet who didn't have the time on his busy schedule (and it would cost $750) to help Sweetie. I am hoping our vet will do it for less than half of that price.

Please help us to help Sweetie! No amount is too small and every dollar will help! No dog deserves to be left for 3 months with the injuries she sustained! Despite all little Sweetie has been through, she is still such a little SWEETIE!

Dog Pack Attacks Gator In Florida...

Dog Pack Attacks Gator In Florida...

At times nature can be cruel, but there is also a raw beauty, and even a certain justice manifested within that cruelty.

The alligator, one of the oldest and ultimate predators, normally considered the "apex predator", can still fall victim to implemented 'team work' strategy, made possible due to the tight knit social structure and "survival of the pack mentality" bred into the canines.

Note that the Alpha dog has a muzzle hold on the gator preventing it from breathing, while another dog has a hold on the tail to keep it from thrashing. The third dog attacks the soft underbelly of the gator.

We are a NO KILL rescue where the life of every animal that crosses our path is important to us. Our passions are the disabled and senior animals- the ones that are discarded because they are not able to chase the ball or run and play like younger dogs; those who have become a ‘burden’ because they to fail to let their owners know they need to go out; or those who are blind and require a little extra time to be cared for, after all their years of faithful service to their owners. I am a disabled Marine and as a Marine, we never left anyone behind. I feel these animals should not be left behind either, which is why I started this animal rescue.

Our mission is to:

• provide shelter, care and medical attention for homeless animals

• provide homeless animals with a new permanent home

• prevent abuse, misuse and killing of domestic animals

We are in need of volunteers to help with all aspects of our animals’ care and shelter operations, including feeding, cleaning and playing with the animals, carpentry projects, shelter promotion (within the community and on the Internet), fundraising efforts, and the adoption process of naming the dogs and cats, photographing them, and assigning each their appropriate color band.

In addition to financial donations, these donations are always needed and are much appreciated: cat and dog food, metal bowls, cat litter, pea gravel, litter pans, balls and ropes, scrap lumber of any kind, nails, bleach, cleaning supplies, trash bags, small plastic pools, dog/cat houses, dog/cat collars and leashes.

Currently, we have several projects we are working on that we need donated supplies for, as well as volunteers to help with the carpentry and physical labor:

• Finishing a sunroom for the cats-this involves finishing the floor, framing in the sides and then screening it in

• Install two 6-foot privacy fence panels. We hope this will deter people from throwing animals over the fence and injuring the animals. We have the fence panels, but need volunteers to help install them

• Finish building the new Out Building for our dogs. Currently framed-in, we need to add the roofing and sides.

• Re-do the flooring inside the shelter by installing new vinyl flooring
